A-1123 Comparison of Acceleromyography (AMG) and Electromyography (EMG) for Monitoring Recovery of Neuromuscular Function in Pediatric Patients
2003 ASA Meeting Abstracts
Susan K. Woelfel, M.D.; Barbara W. Brandom, M.D.
Anesthesiology, Children`s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Category: NEUROMUSCULAR TRANSMISSION
Summary: We compare train of four ratio (TOFR) of AMG to EMG in children after rocuronium. Time to TOFR of 0.4, 0.7 and 0.9 was measured and difference from TOFR of 0.4 to 0.9 was calculated. Data analyzed with paired t-tests showed NSD between these times using the two monitors during isoflurane anesthesia.

Category: OBSTETRIC ANESTHESIA AND PERINATOLOGY
Summary: We have produced a multimedia web-based orientation package which the residents and medical students can use for the pupose of orientation to obsteric anesthesia. This package will replace the bound paper volume our residents currently receive before they start their obsteric anesthesia rotation.

A-924 Rapid Onset of Prolonged Mechanical Hyperalgesia during and after Continuous Epidural Infusion of Inflammatory Cocktail in the Rats
2003 ASA Meeting Abstracts
Jianxiong An, M.D.; Ksenia Borisova, B.A.; Junming Zhang, M.D., M.S.; John P. Williams, M.D.
Anesthesiology, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States.
Category: LOCAL ANESTHESIA AND PAIN
Summary: Continuous epidural infusion of inflammatory mediators causes prolonged pain and hyperalgesia. Results suggest that epidural inflammation resulting from disc herniation or spinal trauma may contribute to the development of low back pain/radiculopathy.

Department of Anesthesiology, Magee-Womens Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States.
Category: OBSTETRIC ANESTHESIA AND PERINATOLOGY
Summary: Higher maternal weight is a known risk factor for cesarean delivery. Using a dataset of 1554 nulliparous parturients from a quality assurance database we showed that at the time of epidural request, the vertex was at a higher station in heavier patients. The CS rate was higher in the heavier patients.
