NIH Merit Award

Dr. Yan Xu was selected for one of the most prestigious awards that the NIH bestows, a MERIT (Method to Extend Research in Time) award. Dr. Xu is the the first awardee in the Anesthesia division of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) to receive a MERIT Award. Initiated in 1987, MERIT awards provide long-term support to investigators with impressive records of scientific achievement in research areas of special importance or promise. This award affords an opportunity for Dr. Xu to extend his grant for up to 5 years beyond the current project period. This is extremely positive for this department and for Yan in particular.
