Dr. Ray McKenzie, Former Chief of Anesthesiology at Magee Women's Hospital, Dies at Age 78

Of Jupiter, FL, died peacefully from pneumonia, Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at age 78. Born in Turua, New Zealand. Ray a lifelong athlete, avid tennis player, Commonwealth Games high-jump champion and gardener, was surrounded by his loving wife Barbara of 50 years and family. He is survived by his beloved children, Robyn, Brett (Joan), Craig (Melody), Glenn (Kathleen), and granddaughters Ryan, Lauren, Sarah, Clare, and Eaven. Ray served as a Royal New Zealand Medical Officer in the South Pacific. He graduated the Royal College of Surgeons in London, founded the Anesthesiology Dept. at Mowasat Hospital in Kuwait and became the Chief of Anesthesiology at Magee Women's Hospital, a position he maintained for over 20 years. Ray also served as a professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, was a widely respected scholar, world wide lecturer and led numerous research projects promoting excellence in patient comfort and care. A memorial service will be held in his honor at Heinz Chapel, Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at 2 pm.
