The Annual Membership Meeting
of the Pennsylvania Society of Anesthesiologists was held on Saturday,
October 22, 2005 in Atlanta, Georgia. Several members of the UPP
Department of Anesthesiology were recognized for their service
and contributions to the Society. Carol E. Rose, M.D. was presented
with the PSA Distinguished Service Award for her many years of
hard work and dedication to her specialty. In addition to being
an active member of the PSA Board of Directors, Dr. Rose has served
two terms as President of the Society (1995-1996 and 2003-2004),
as a Delegate from Pennsylvania to the ASA House of Delegates,
and on several PSA Committees. Dr. Rose has also been an active
member of the County and State Medical Societies, currently serving
on the ACMS Board, being a previous Trustee of the PMS, and served
as PMS President in 2001. She is currently a delegate from the
ASA to the AMA House of Delegates. Her activities have served the
specialty of anesthesiology by advancing its agenda in the entire
house of medicine. Congratulations to Carol on an award that is
well deserved!
Erin A. Sullivan, M.D. was elected to the position
of President-Elect of the PSA. She serves as the Legislative Chair
for the PSA, as an active member of the PSA Board of Directors
and is an Alternate Delegate from Pennsylvania to the ASA House
of Delegates.
Steven L. Whitehurst, M.D. is an active member of
the PSA Board of Directors, an Alternate Delegate to the ASA House
of Delegates as well as the Chair of the PSA Education Committee.
Dr. Whitehurst is responsible for constructing and maintaining
an excellent continuing education web site for PSA that provides
a valuable source of information for practicing anesthesiologists,
fellows and residents alike.
Steven R. Strelec, M.D. has contributed
years of service to the PSA as a Past President, active member
of the Board of Directors, and as a Delegate to the ASA House of
Delegates. Dr. Strelec’s
persistence and tireless efforts for ten years to obtain fair reimbursement
for anesthesiologists’ fees under the Pennsylvania Worker’s
Compensation Program resulted in a 63% increase in the pay schedule
effective this year. Congratulations to Dr. Strelec for his important
contribution to the practice of anesthesiology!
We also wish to
recognize Joseph Talarico, D.O. for his service as an active PSA
Board of Directors member and Alternate Delegate to the ASA House
of Delegates. Last, but certainly not least, Evan T. Lukow, D.O.
