We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jacques Chelly to the newly created position of Director, Division of Regional Anesthesia and Acute Interventional Perioperative Pain, UPP Anesthesiology. The department has recognized the growing demand for regional anesthesia and acute interventional perioperative pain services and is committed to the establishment of consistent, quality programs throughout the system. Dr. Chelly’s expanded duties for oversight of Regional Anesthesia and Acute Interventional Perioperative Pain activities at all hospitals served by UPP anesthesiology include management of the department’s responsibilities for evidence based clinical care, consistent documentation and billing practices, and quality assurance for the division.
Jacques E Chelly, MD, PHD, MBA came to the University of Pittsburgh from Houston in July of 2002. He was Professor of Anesthesiology and Orthopedic Surgery at University of Texas at Houston and the Director of Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain from 1998 to 2002. He is the author of 2 textbooks on peripheral nerve block techniques and of 258 publications on regional anesthesia and acute pain. He joined UPMC Shadyside Hospital in July of 2002 as the Director of Orthopedic Anesthesia and the Acute Interventional Perioperative Pain Service and was instrumental in developing one of the most active acute interventional services in the country. In September 2006, he took over the Directorship of the acute pain service at UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital.
