Dear colleagues,
It is our honor and privilege to invite you to the 1st Annual Mediterranean Transplantation Anesthesiology and Simulation Symposium (MedTASS), which will take place at the beautiful and historic Villa Igiea in Palermo, Sicily during the weekend of April 17-19, 2009.
Local, national and international experts will present up-to-date reviews of current standards of practice in the perioperative anesthetic and intensive care management of liver, heart and lung transplantation. Issues regarding the organ donor will be discussed including strategies to minimize ischemia reperfusion injury. Pro/con debates on difficult case presentations in liver transplantation will allow active audience participation with a panel of experts. Finally, issues regarding the pediatric patient for transplantation will emphasize the special concerns of this patient population.
Unique to this conference will be the use of medical simulation to teach and demonstrate critical operating room scenarios encountered in liver, heart and lung transplantation. Attendees will participate in interactive sessions dealing with intraoperative decisions in real-time crisis management scenarios. In addition, special sessions will be held teaching difficult airway management, fiberoptic intubation and central line placement. Two keynote presentations will address the topics of "Transplantation: Past, Present and Future" and "The Role of Simulation in Medical Education".
We look forward to welcoming you to Palermo in April, 2009.
