A photo of James W. Ibinson MD, PhD (T32 postdoctoral research fellow and Clinical Instructor) was featured in Investing in the Future, the new NIH National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) strategic plan for biomedical and behavioral research training (see Table of Contents, page 2.) Investing in the Future reflects NIGMS’ long-standing commitment to research training and the development of a highly capable, diverse biomedical and behavioral research workforce.
NIGMS funds the Department of Anesthesiology’s T32 Postdoctoral Training Grant entitled “Research Training in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.” The Department’s T32 grant has been funded since 2007; the program director is Dr. Yan Xu.
In developing the strategic plan for biomedical and behavioral research training, NIGMS received thoughtful input from many stakeholders, including university faculty and administrators, graduate students and postdocs, representatives of professional societies, and individuals from government and industry. The 2011 strategic plan is available at http://publications.nigms.nih.gov/trainingstrategicplan/.
