"Anesthetic Management in Upper Extremity Transplantation: The Pittsburgh Experience", authored by anesthesiology faculty Drs. R. Scott Lang, Stephen Esper, Mario Montoya, Ibtesam A. Hilmi, Tetsuro Sakai and Raymond M. Planinsic, is now available in the September 2012 issue of Anesthesia and Analgesia, along with an accompanying editorial, “Out on a Limb with Composite Tissue Allografts: Expanding the Immunology Toolbox.”
This first of its kind paper describing the Pittsburgh Upper Extremity Transplantation Anesthesiology Protocol was first authored by Dr. R. Scott Lang, pediatric pain fellow at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and written when he was a senior resident in the department as his research project. This work was mentored by Professor Raymond M. Planinsic, MD, Director of Transplantation Anesthesiology at UPMC, who served as Dr. Lang's advisor on this project and the paper’s corresponding author.
