Dr. Xu's teaching responsibility includes:

• Graduate training faculty for the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Graduate Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The program consists of 9 Ph.D. degree granting programs.
• A core faculty member for the Biophysics Program, Molecular Pharmacology Program, and the Neuroscience Program.
  
• A faculty mentor for the Biomedical Informatics and Bioinformatics Programs at University of Pittsburgh.
  
• A faculty member of three NIH-funded training programs: (1) the MD/PhD Medical Scientist Training Program, (2) Predoctoral Training in Pharmacologic Sciences, and (3) Post-Graduate Training in Pediatric Neurointensive Care and Resuscitation Research.
  
• Faculty advisor and mentor for the QUEST Undergraduate Research Program and Jean Hamilton Walls Scholars Program.

For graduate students who want to do a lab rotation:

Students in Dr. Xu's laboratory have the opportunity to learn a variety of modern techniques, including expression and purification of membrane proteins, immunohistochemistry, high-resolution nuclear magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy, imaging reconstruction, 3-D protein structure calculation, and molecular dynamics simulations.
