The Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System offers care to U.S. Veterans throughout the tri-state area of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. The VA Anesthesiology division consists of seven full time faculty, three part-time faculty, and 15 CRNAs. The division is rapidly growing — in FY10, off-site activity (primarily in the GI lab) doubled to over 600 cases in the past year. Three hundred and seventy nine cases were performed in the EP lab- a 7% increase over the prior year, and Chronic Pain Service new outpatient consults grew 5%. VA clinical service consisted of 5,229 OR cases in FY10, including 43 liver transplants, and 36 kidney transplants. The number of invasive interventions has also increased significantly, with a total of 190 procedures being performed under fluoroscopy.
