It is our pleasure to announce the appointment of David Metro, M.D. to the position of Associate Residency Program Director, Department of Anesthesiology.

David Metro received his M.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1994, and completed his anesthesiology residency in our program. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the department and Staff Anesthesiologist at UPMC Presbyterian/Shadyside Hospital. He has also served as Director of Perioperative and Trauma Pain Service at UPMC Presbyterian-Shadyside Hospital since 2001. Dr. Metro was Board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in 1998.

Dr. Metro has been active in resident education since he joined the faculty. He serves as chair of our Resident Selection and Appointment Subcommittee of the Resident Education Committee. His efforts, along with those of the committee, have resulted in the recruitment of high calibre residents to our program. His participation in simulator and didactic instruction of residents includes introductory sessions on airway management and the management of acute postoperative pain. Dr. Metro is also actively involved with the medical student programs as Director of Medical Student Education at Montefiore Hospital, as a Session Leader for the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Clinical Procedures Course, and as a FAST and Senior Elective advisor to medical students.

Dr. Metro has demonstrated a strong commitment to the residency program, beginning with involvement in the Educational Advisory Council, with his experience as an advisor, clinical teacher and chair of the recruitment and selection committee.

We congratulate him on his appointment as Associate Program Director and wish him continued success.
